Grain-ready holds should be clean, dry, free from infestation, objectionable odour and residues that could contaminate or damage the intended cargo.
Areas often missed
Inspect upper ledges, underside of hatch covers, frames, bilges, ladder platforms, pipe guards, tank tops and areas behind structural members. Previous cargo residue can remain on high horizontal surfaces even after the tank top appears clean.
Final acceptance depends on the applicable authority, cargo requirements and conditions observed at inspection.
